When I became a parent I had wide-eyed expectations for what my life would look like. I figured being a nanny in my early days, teaching here and there and loving kids was all I needed to be a model mom. While I felt I could be a good mom I found myself parenting and living my life subconsciously avoiding criticism. This experience proved to be depleting and unsustainable. I was ignoring my instincts and I knew this was not a life meant for me. I had to pull back and really listen to my gut. What exactly did I want out of this experience? What did I want for my child? And what kind of relationship did I want with my partner? What kind of life was authentic for me? What I needed were good tools. The few ones I had were not mine and I had a lot of trouble using them. I had to let go of outside opinions, toss rusty tools and search for ones meant for me. Day by day, week by week, year by year and still counting I collect, try out, keep or toss what works or doesn't work. In the process I am also learning that just because something works for me it doesn't mean it works for others in my family - so I keep trying and growing that tool box. I'm excited to share with you as many tools as I can possibly get my hands on. Some will incite curiosity for you and others not so much. I also know that YOU have a collection of tools you'll hopefully want to share with this community. Our Sprout's Gardening Shed is going to be packed to the brim... I just know it. We're planting seeds here, beyond raising kids!. To start off I'd like to introduce you to one of my favorite simple tools, accessible 24/7, free and customizable...drum roll... The PODCAST.
Welcome to the revival of our blog, All Things Sprout! First and foremost I hope your New Year is off to a satisfying start. It’s always relieving when we have a marker that gives us permission to start anew, refreshed. In reality we don’t really need permission – we have access to a new start EVERY. DAY. No permission required.
This is why creating a space for our Creative Sprouts’ online community is so important. CS stands with opportunity as a player in the lives of families with Little Ones. For many of us this time in our lives lays out the foundations for how we want to raise our youngsters. I don’t know about you, but in my humble experience I realized that in becoming a parent I was set on a path that jolted almost everything I thought I knew about being a mother and wife. While learning to guide my children I am also figuring out how to live the life I want and understand that those roles are only two in a handful I juggle. The roles are vast and complex, this holds true for moms, dads (biological and non), grandparents, caregivers, teachers, aunts, uncles…etc. Those are solely the roles in relation to our Little Ones – because the truth is you carry so many more.
All Things Sprouts is a place to share classroom activities, events and highlights. Beyond the classroom we hope to provide a place to explore topics, experiences and information related to this whirlwind of an experience called parenthood. Our staff will share their classroom musings, in addition to favorite kid friendly recipes and activities you can experience at home with your children. We will bring in experts on topics ranging from early childhood development to parenting styles to family dynamics. In addition we’ll invite courageous parents to share their stories, because relating with one another is key in building a strong community. In order to thrive we need to take the shame and guilt out of parenting and grab with vigor the beauty, joy and treasure that is there – I promise there’s tons and it’s infinite! I am very excited to watch All Things Sprout evolve along with CS. Join me in support of us, you, families everywhere to Sprout Into Parenting at All Things Sprout.
Who am I? I am Ana, mother to a vivacious CS Alum (who’s in third grade already!) and a sweet CS toddler. I’ve had a front row seat to the evolution of this beautiful community since day one. Every teacher and staff that has walked through the school adds to the love and compassion. Watching the 2As (this is what I call AnneMarie & Andrea) grow CS has been a privilege and blessing. I am amazed by their love, care and compassion. Their imagination, drive and talent are inspiring. Ultimately their unconditional love for my children, support of their teachers and commitment to your family and mine makes them truly one of a kind.
We are excited to share events, activities, thoughts and fun with our visitors. We love our school and all the Little Sprouts that make it home!
