Walking into school yesterday I felt some watchful eyes on me. I looked up and noticed new friends perched on our school tree.
Each cheerful owl carried it's own style of feathers, and eyes. I had to find the culprits behind these adorable feathery friends. Miss Carrie's After-School students were the crafters behind these charming midnight dwellers!
Miss Carrie shared her step-by-steps instructions so you can create a menagerie of your own.
1 paper tube (tissue or paper towel)
2 coffee filters (crimped)
1 white construction paper
1 orange or yellow construction paper
1 black marker
1 pair scissors
1 glue stick
Step 1: Stack coffee filters together
Step 2: Fold in half
Step 3: Cut in half
Step 4: While holding quarters to stay together cut the top triangle off.
When you pull them apart they will look like a set of tutus. You can create whatever shape you want. Be creative. Every owl will have it's own unique personality.
Step 5: Glue each layer from top to bottom on your paper tube.
Step 6: Place your fingers on the top of the tube and push the two parallel sides together to create ears.
Step 7: Cut out two circles for eyes from the white contruction paper. (feel free to use whatever color you desire)
Step 8: With the black marker draw two circles and color them in the middle of the cut-out circles.
Step 9: Glue the eyes on the paper tube.
Almost there... Isn't she looking adorable?
Step 11: Glue the triangle under the eyes on the tube.
I think I'll name her Feathers.
Have fun and remember, little hands may not apply every step as technically as described, but by letting them do it their own way magical art immerses.
Send us pictures of your owl friends!
