"Maintaining your perspective is worth the effort, not only for your relationship with him but because the challenges that face our species and our world are going to demand his and your best instincts and actions. We need to raise our game, starting with how we raise our kids". -DRG

We must remember we are not raising our children for the world we were raised in. We are raising them for a world in which we have very little understanding.... the present is changing with lighting speed, and the future is nothing like today.

The Whole-Brain Child
Don't you just love those toddlers? Snuggly and sweet one minute, and then a gremlin takes possession of them the next? Such little bodies with such BIG reactions. Do you ever wonder "What in the world is happening inside that little head of yours"?

The Whole-Brain Child is a must read by Drs. Dan Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson which clearly explains the inner workings of the emotional developing brain.  Dr. Siegel calls this kind of human reaction as "Flipping your lid".  Let's face it, toddlers aren't alone here.  He uses the hand as a model of the brain and how the upstairs and downstairs brain connect.  You can find out more about Dr. Siegel's work at www.drdansiegel.com.

Here is a video by Positive Discipline Coach and Educator, Casey O'Rourty of Joyful Courage,  on how the brain functions in "flipping your lid".

This video is a great teaching tool for kids. They are sponges and get so much from understanding how their minds and bodies work.  Take a moment and sit with your little ones so they can watch this video alongside you.  Share your experience with us in the comments.  Wishing you a flipped lid free day!
